Wednesday
Night Fun and Fitness Skates
7 pm EVERY Wednesday Night
at El Dorado
Park in Scottsdale (West side of 77th St., 1/8th of a mile North of McDowell)
The Fun Skate and the Fitness Skate both start and end at the same time
and place. Both groups also socialize together at a local bar or restaurant
afterwards. The Fitness Skate is a fast paced group skate that winds its
way through 12-16 miles of streets and recreational trails in roughly an
hour and a half. Fitness Skate participants are there to enjoy the wild,
fast ride and get a good workout. The Fun Skate is similar, but covers 6-10
miles at a much more relaxed pace with more of an emphasis on improving
your skating skills and socializing.
WHAT
TO BRING ON THE SKATE:
It's a good idea to carry your ID, insurance card and enough money for cab
fare back to your car just so you are prepared for absolutely anything!
You should also bring water in either a Camelbak or similar pack, or in
a plastic water bottle. White/light colored clothing or reflective wear
and a red flashing "blinkie" light complete this list. You may
also feel more comfortable on any occasional dark stretches of pavement
if you bring a flashlight.
HELMETS &
PROTECTIVE GEAR
Helmets are highly recommended as well as wrist,
knee and elbow pads! Helmets and pads dramatically reduce
risk of serious injury. In case anyone hadn't noticed, helmets are "in"!
WHAT
TO BRING FOR AFTER THE SKATE
If you are going to join us after the skate for snacks, beverages and socializing,
bring your ID and some money. Of course, if you happen to have some spare
baked goods lying around the house you are trying to get rid of, no one
will mind if you bring those, too!
SKILL
LEVEL:
This is not a skate for children!!
The Fitness Skate is for experienced and very confident skaters ready for
a challenging workout. Fun Skate participants should be able to stride,
turn and handle typical pavement conditions comfortably, but you don't have
to be super fast. All skaters MUST be able to stop.
If you need help with your stopping or skating skills,
you might consider Skating Lessons.
Important
Note: All SKATERS SKATE AT THEIR OWN RISK.
The Wednesday Night Skates are informal skaters' get-togethers and are not
sponsored
by AISA or any of its members. AISA and those skaters who generously volunteer
to lead and/or map out skate routes assume no liability for any accidents
or
any dangerous or illegal behavior of the participants on the skate.
